About McArthur

McArthur is a small agricultural community in the eastern part of Shasta County, located in the fertile Fall River Valley. It was established in the early 1900s and named after the McArthur family, who were prominent early settlers and ranchers in the region.

The town grew with the expansion of the railroad and irrigation systems, which helped transform the valley into one of Northern California’s most productive agricultural areas. McArthur quickly became a hub for farming, cattle ranching, and hay production, and it remains so today.

McArthur is also well known for hosting the Inter-Mountain Fair, a beloved regional event that’s been held annually since 1921. The fair draws thousands from across Shasta, Lassen, and Modoc counties and showcases local agriculture, crafts, livestock, and community spirit.

Today, McArthur maintains its rural charm and close-knit community feel, serving as a center for local farming and a gateway to outdoor recreation in the surrounding valleys, mountains, and rivers.
